What type of wood do you sell?
We produce a range of firewood which is sorted into several categories to help you choose the most suitable fuel. Firstly we separate the wood into hard and softwoods:
Hardwood:
the closed grain slower growing wood of broad-leaved dicotyledonous trees, such as oak, beech, ash, sycamore.
Softwood:
the open-grained faster growing wood of coniferous trees, such as pine and larch.
We split and cut the hardwood timber into logs for seasoning as this make longer burning good quality firewood. We save our softwood for woodchip.
What size wood should I order?
Small
Less than 10 inches in length but a variety of widths, Customers should be advised that in the production of smaller logs it is more difficult to produce small chunky logs, and shorter logs are sometimes thinner! These are ideal for the smaller stoves and fireplaces.
We can cut very small chunky firewood to order, there is however an extra charge for this service, please call for details.
Medium
10 - 13 inches, this makes up the bulk of our log production and is an average sized log suitable for most medium stoves and fireplaces.
Large
13 - 16 inches. For the larger stoves and open fires.
We are happy to cut wood to specification but if you would like specific lengths of seasoned wood we need to know in the spring/summer so we can cut it to size for seasoning!
What quantity of wood should I order?
Our logs are sold by volume rather than by weight so that the amounts sold are of constant measure. This is due to the fact that wood gets lighter as it seasons and the moisture content reduces. Selling by weight is therefore not a fair measure and selling by volume ensures all customers receive the same amounts.
We sell most wood by the loose Cubic Metre (M³), as it is loose it takes up less space than a full cubic metre when stacked.
We also sell small bags of logs and kindling
Should I order seasoned or part seasoned firewood?
You need to burn seasoned wood on any fire in order to get the most heat and the most efficiency. What you buy will depend on when you want to burn the wood and the storage you have available.
Seasoned wood is Ready to Burn, below 25 % moisture content, and needs to be kept under cover (in a log store/shed etc) it is harder to get very much lower moisture contents for wood in this country due to the general humidity in the air.
Part seasoned wood requires further seasoning undercover in a well ventilated area for at least 3 months, maybe longer depending on weather conditions and size, and starting moisture content. To be on the safe side we would advise 4 months seasoning if you buy our part seasoned wood. The larger the size of log, the longer it will take to season/dry.
Un-seasoned wood is freshly cut and requires seasoning undercover in a well ventilated area for at least 9 months usually a little longer dependant on species and size.
If you have space to store your wood it’s a great idea to get into the cycle of seasoning wood yourself, this takes advantage of the reduced price of part seasoned wood and gets you prepared for next winter!

What is the kW/h value of our wood?
For an £80 m3 load the value is 3.7 pence per kW hour, this compare with an average of 5.7 pence per kW/h for oil.
