Our Story
The firewood company emerged almost accidentally, initially set up by Daf & Ewart Schofield as part of ESA Treecare, as a sideline to make use of the waste wood from the company’s tree work. We began to season the wood and sell it on a very small scale. A subdivision of ESA Treecare, called ESA Fuelwoods, slowly expanded but demand quickly outgrew supply. We began to buy in timber specifically for seasoning into firewood. Production and Storage out grew several premises and is now happily housed on the Penllyn Estate Farm.
The company has gradually expanded to become South Wales’s largest producer and supplier of firewood and related products. In 2009 we changed our name to The Firewood Company and began our greatest expansion to date. The Firewood Company now out source the vast majority of our timber. We still process and sell a small amount of logs produced from tree surgery material from ESA Treecare and from other tree care companies; this is separated from our main wood and can be ordered separately, as it is less uniform in size and shape.
Our roots come from a sustainable point of view - we were finding a use for a waste product. We supply firewood because we believe in using and promoting wood as a sustainable fuel which offers an environmentally positive solution to heating your home or business. We believe in the products we produce and sell, and in providing good customer service; making sure our customers get high quality fire wood all year round, at a time that is convenient for them – no waiting in all day, or not knowing which day your logs will be delivered!
